Resolved Question: Should I live in a hotel for 3 months? How much would it cost?

I'm going to be a senior this coming fall and am applying to universities far from where I live now. Whichever one I end up chosing, I want to live in that city over the summer and work, just to get some money. My last day of school is June 1, so I'd probably start working around the 5th until whenever school starts. Is this a good idea? A lot of the ones I'm applying to our in southern california, and I'd really like to work in the Santa Monica area. I'd probably live in the Santa Monica Holiday Inn.
